As with most Apple devices, you can customize the HomePod’s name to suit your needs.

By default, a HomePod is shown as a “HomePod”. I always rename my Apple devices to something more descriptive, like “Chris’ iPhone X”, “Living Room Apple TV”, etc.

Renaming a HomePod makes it easy to distinguish it from other AirPlay devices in the Control Center and other menus. As a further bonus, the HomePod is also specified by name in the list of iCloud devices, which can be found under Settings under iOS, System Settings under macOS and on the web.

If you live in a house with a number of Apple devices, identifying them in AirPlay, AirDrop, and other menus quickly becomes confusing. Hence, you need more descriptive names for your Apple gadgets, e.g. B. “Mama’s iPhone 7”, “Daddy’s iPad” etc.

This can be especially important for happy owners of multiple HomePods.

For example, one of your HomePods might be in the living room, well hidden under the TV, while the other is on your desk in the garage. You should give each HomePod a custom name so it doesn’t get confused.
