The iPhone X’s side button has an impressive array of features that function as the power button, lock screen button, Siri summon button, Apple Pay summoner, accessibility features, part of the snapshot screenshot sequence, part of steps to force restart, and more. That’s a lot of work for a single iPhone button! Some of these functions require you to press the iPhone X side button two or three times in quick succession. While the default speed seems acceptable to most users, others may want to adjust the click speed for the iPhone X side button to make it a little slower to perform the same double and triple click actions.

This tutorial will show you how to customize the iPhone X side button click speed.

Note that this only applies to iPhone X devices without the traditional home button. However, if you have an iPhone or iPad with a home button, you can also change the click speed of the home button in iOS if you need to.

How to customize side button click speed on iPhone X

  1. Open the Settings application on the iPhone
  2. Go to General, then Accessibility.
  3. Tap “Side Button”
  4. .

  5. Adjust the click speed as desired by tapping one of the three options:
  • Standard – the standard double and triple printing speed, which is quite fast
  • Dragging
  • Slower – This option allows you to press the side button two and three times slower to activate its features
  • .

  • Exit the settings when you are satisfied
  • The side button click speed changes instantly, so you can test the difference right away without leaving the Settings app. Of course, you can always go back to the settings to adjust the click speed of the side button.

For many users, leaving the default setting is appropriate, but other iPhone X users may appreciate more freedom and forgiveness by pressing the iPhone X side button two or three times. You may also find that slowing down your click speed really helps. Quit accidentally bringing up some of the features, like Apple Pay or the accessibility shortcut, as the speed of the keystroke is a little more conscious. Give it a try and find out what works best for you.

If you double-tap the side button on iPhone X, it defaults to the Apple Pay shortcut screen. Press the side button three times to bring up the accessibility features. You can also adjust any of these specific settings or disable them entirely if they don’t work as implemented for you.

Obviously, this ties in with the iPhone X, which has a redesigned case that was previously only available for this specific hardware. This presumably applies to other iPhone and iPad models that have a full screen mode and do without the home button. This seems to be the inevitable design direction Apple is taking for iOS hardware. For devices with a home button, you can adjust the click speed of the home button on iPhone and iPad as described here if you want.
