The Apple HomePod is one of Cupertino’s most fascinating products. In fact, it looks like it’s almost like a new version of the iPod Hi-Fi that was released a long time ago.

Unfortunately, the HomePod has seen a few different issues lately. One of those things is the ability to request specific playlists or artists to play.

Some users have found Siri pretending to have no idea what you are talking about. Others have stated that Siri says, “I can’t find a XXX playlist in your music.”

Let’s look at a few different ways to fix this problem.

Subscribe to Apple Music

The first “update” here is possibly the most obvious of the bunch. It seems that Apple has made it possible for you to use Siri on your iPhone or iPad to play certain playlists.

However, there is a lock on those who have not subscribed to Apple Music in order to properly play the playlists. This is due to the involvement of who needs to be active.

Apple doesn’t specifically state that you must have an Apple Music subscription. However, subscribing to Apple Music can help fix any issues that you encounter.

If you’re a new subscriber, you can likely get a free three-month subscription. From there you will be charged $ 9.99 per month, which is well worth it if you want to keep using your HomePod.

Remove the HomePod from iCloud

The next option here is a pretty straightforward way of getting things working. This method requires you to remove the HomePod and add it to your iCloud again.

To remove the HomePod from your iCloud, you need to do the following:

  • Open the app begin .
  • Find your HomePod.
  • Hold down HomePod .
  • Tap details .
  • Scroll down and press Remove accessories .
  • This will completely remove the HomePod from your iCloud account. From there, you can check and configure the HomePod as if you were opening it up again for the first time.

    Reset your HomePod

    Removing the HomePod from your iCloud account will reset the speaker. However, there is another method to reset the HomePod without touching the Apple Home app.

    If you want to reset HomePod using the speaker, do the following:

  • Disconnect the HomePod.
  • Wait 5 seconds and reconnect.
  • Wait another 5 seconds and then touch and hold the top of the HomePod.
  • The rotating light will turn red, but keep your finger there.
  • Siri will wake up and say the HomePod is about to restart.
  • You will hear three beeps and then you can lift your finger.
  • As with the last method, it will reset your HomePod to its factory settings. This means that you can configure the HomePod as if it were new.

    Disable ‘Hey Siri’

    Since the root of the problem here is that Siri is not doing the right thing, chances are that there is a problem somewhere. Here it can be useful to turn off the ‘Hey Siri’ command.

    There are two different methods for doing this. The first is just using your voice and saying, “Hey Siri, turn off Hey Siri.” This may not seem intuitive, but it should work fine.

    The following method requires using the Home application on your iPhone or iPad. Just open the app, tap and hold your HomePod to bring up the details panel. Then you want to switch between ‘Hey Siri’ and ‘Hey Siri’ in this menu.


    It is quite unfortunate that Apple has not yet responded to the various problems it has encountered with the HomePod. But it’s no surprise either, considering that new updates are being released all the time.
