PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
