World Series Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match series drew over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
